Darin Green Jr. FSU’s Top Scorer in Return to UCF
Former UCF guard, Darin Green Jr., returned to Addition Arena on Friday night to take on UCF for the first time since transferring to Florida State, following the 2021-22 season.
Green Jr. played three seasons for the Knights under Johnny Dawkins, averaging 11.6 points per game.
Postgame, UCF head coach, Johnny Dawkins said, “I’m happy for Darin. If Darin’s happy, I’m happy for him. He gave us three good years, he did a great job for me…he’s a class act, and I wish him nothing but the best.”
Going up against his former team, Green Jr. was the Seminoles’ leading scorer, putting up 17 points, while shooting 7-14 from the field and 3-6 from three. To go along with his scoring efforts, Green Jr. recorded 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 2 steals, one of which leading to a fast break dunk.
Despite the solid performance from Green Jr., the Seminoles were not able to get the win, falling to UCF, 54-68.
With a team that was already slightly shorthanded due to injuries heading into the game, starting center, Naheem McLeod, suffered an achilles injury, potentially sidelining him for several weeks. With McLeod sidelined, the Seminoles were out rebounded 52-22 and were outscored 22-0 in second chance points, both of which contributed to the Seminoles’ loss.
