USF Bounces Back Against FAMU for First Win of the Season
Following a tough loss at Western Kentucky last week, USF hosted FAMU in their home opener at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday night. The Bulls took down the Rattlers, 38-24, for their first win of the season.
Redshirt freshman QB, Byrum Brown, made his presence felt in this home opener. Brown was responsible for all five of the Bulls’ touchdowns, with three through the air and two on the ground. He completed 20 of his 34 pass attempts, while throwing for 197 yards, and rushing for 23 yards.
The Bulls’ defense made a major impact on the game, forcing five turnovers. They recovered two fumbles and grabbed three interceptions, including safety, Logan Berryhill’s, INT to seal the game with just over two minutes left.
The Bull’s defense put a halt to FAMU’s run game. FAMU was coming off a win over Jackson State, in which the Rattlers’ had 208 rushing yards, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. On Saturday night, the Bulls’ defense held them to just 19 rushing yards, averaging just 0.7 yards per carry.
USF did a great job righting the ship this game. In the Bulls’ loss to WKU last weekend, they had three turnovers, while forcing none on the defensive side of the ball. On Saturday night, the Bulls flipped the script, forcing five turnovers, while committing none on the offensive end.
